Do you know what Europol Virus is?
Europol Virus is a ransomware infection that locks down your computer and says that your computer has been blocked by your internet service provider. The infection targets users in Germany and it is distributed by Revoyem Trojan. Europol Virus makes users think that their computer has been locked own because of certain illegal activities. The message on your screen says that your Internet service provider has locked down your computer on behalf of Federal Police bureau. Needless to say, that these claims are false, and you have done nothing illegal.
This infection functions just like any other ransomware infection from Ukash Virus group family. For example, Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Virus or Decrypt Protect Virus. It does not matter that each of these infections makes use of different methods to collect the ransom payments. The main idea is still the same - Europol Virus and other ransomware programs make use of alternative payment systems to gather money from unsuspecting computer users, because such PaySafeCard (or MoneyPak, MoneyGram, CashU and etc) does not require a user to have a credit card in order to transfer the money. Therefore, it becomes a useful tool in this insolent fraud.
Ihr Computer ist von Internet Service Provider an Anfrage des Bundeskriminalamts gesperrt.

Above you can see an extract of a message displayed by Europol Virus. As you can see, it tries to convince you that you need to pay a 100 Euro fee in order to avoid prosecution. According to the message, if you pay the fine, your computer will be unlocked and your personal information along with the activity log will not be sent to the court. However, Europol Virus says that you can only pay the fee within 48 hours. Not to mention, that it threatens to delete your files if you try removing Europol Virus on your own.
