WordShark Removal Guide

Do you know what WordShark is?

WordShark is a new type of adware application that offers users usable functions that may come at a hefty price. It has been created to help users search and translate information much faster. But, testing in our internal lab has shown that the application is malicious because it collects information about the user and shows third-party advertisements. So, regardless of whether you find this program useful, we recommend that you remove it for your own and your computer’s security.

The developers do not try to hide the fact that the application is ad-supported. They explicitly declare this on the applications website located at Wordsharkapp.com. However, they do not state the fact that the content provided by the ads may be harmful to your computer and even you. The ads are supplied by various entities of unknown origin, so the legitimacy of the content cannot be verified. But, the owners of WordShark get paid for displaying that content so it is in their interest to know as little about their clients as possible. We argue that you should get rid of the application, because some advertisements might promote malware downloads. If your computer becomes infected with malware such as ransomware, fake programs, and so on, you might be duped into paying money to cyber criminals and scammers. Therefore, we recommend that you remove WordShark as soon as possible.WordShark Removal GuideWordShark screenshot

One other thing to note is the fact that the program can collect information about you. The developers claim that the application does not collect personally identifiable information. However, the third parties promoted by them may very well share the information with the developers or any other entity for that matter. So what do they actually collect? Well, the collect information such as your browsing history, search queries, IP addresses, default search provider, time zone, and service provider, among other things. The information is collected in order to customize the ads so that they would look more appealing and relevant to the user. The developers make money, so there is no possibility of this application to ever become ad-free.

As far WordShark’s indented functionality goes, well, it is not that bad. We doubt that this application will make the browsing experience faster, but that is subject to individual preferences, which are not discussed here. The program offers users a function that allows them to highlight a desired text and perform several actions, including searching the phrase on Wikipedia, translating it to a desired language, or getting linguistic information about a certain one term. So, that is basically it.

However, we cannot downplay the fact that WordShark is unreliable and there is a possibility that your computer can become infected with more malicious software if you click an unknown ad. So our researchers recommend that you remove this application manually or use an application that would it for you. In any case, this has to be done because taking such a risk is not worth your while.
