Do you know what is? is a search provider that is becoming more and more popular in the United States, Canada, and the UK. It is not a regular search provider because it is usually associated with the My Current News XP by SaferBrowser extension that is compatible with the most popular web browsers: Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox. The official source representing this extension is, and its publisher is SailMachine. We have mentioned the names of these companies in many of our previous reports because they are also responsible for,,, and similar search tools that we usually recognize as browser hijackers. If a program is capable of changing your browser’s settings without permission, it is a browser hijacker that deserves immediate removal. Although My Current News XP warns its users that changes will be initiated, not many users notice this warning. If you do not know how to delete or the extension associated with it, continue reading this report.

My Current News XP changes the homepage and default search engine only on Internet Explorer and Firefox browsers; however, could corrupt Chrome as well by setting the startup page to open the extension via New Tab. If you go to change the startup option, you will have to disable the extension first. This extension also adds a toolbar to Firefox and IE browsers to show links to various news websites, including,, and This toolbar also shows Local Weather. Although this plug-in looks beneficial, you should not install it based only on the facts represented via its official download page. You should, at least, analyze the Privacy Policy, which states that personally identifiable information could be collected and even leaked to third parties whom, we might add, you are not introduced to. Although My Current News XP might seem useful at first, the main feature of this extension is to introduce you to This search provider is neither useful not reliable, and we believe it is best for you to delete it as soon as possible. If you enter keywords, you will be redirected to Yahoo Search via the server, and the results shown are likely to be modified. Needless to say, this is not how a trustworthy, useful search tool should work. Once installed, the Chrome extension (ID ibnhigdfmacodpffeofnbpigfjohappe) is found in the Extensions folder under C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\ and Firefox extension (news@jetpack.xpi file) under C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\[*]\extensions. Although you can, removing extension directly from these folders is not recommended. The extension for Internet Explorer is sent via, and it is easiest to delete it by uninstalling it via Control Panel.

If you decide to remove and My Current News XP manually, there are two ways you can tackle this task. If you do not mind taking a challenge, you can analyze your operating system to see all added files and registries to delete undesirable software. In that case, you would have to change the values under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes\{0633EE93-D776-472f-A0FF-E1416B8B2E3A}, as well as HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main, as well as delete files. An easier option is to uninstall the unwanted program via Control Panel and delete Chrome/Firefox extensions. This way, you will have the hijacker deleted automatically. When uninstalling the app, do not forget to reset your homepage and search provider to preferred tools. Alternatively, use automated removal software, and this option is the most reliable and effective of all.


Delete from Windows 10

  1. Enter Control Panel into the Taskbar search.
  2. In the Control Panel menu select Uninstall a program.
  3. Right-click the app you want to remove and choose Uninstall.

Delete from Windows 8.1 or Windows 8

  1. Click the Search icon on the Charm bar (in Metro UII).
  2. Enter Uninstall a program and launch this tool.
  3. Right-click and Uninstall the undesirable application.

Delete from Windows 7 or Windows Vista

  1. Open the Start menu (click Windows logo on the Taskbar).
  2. Click on Control Panel and select Uninstall a program.
  3. Right-click on the item you wish to remove and select Uninstall.

Delete from Windows XP

  1. Open the Start menu and go to Control Panel.
  2. Double-click on Add or Remove Programs.
  3. Move to the Change or Remove Program menu and Remove the unwanted app.

Delete from Google Chrome

  1. Open Chrome and tap Alt+F keys to open a menu on the right.
  2. Select More tools and click Extensions to access the list of all extensions.
  3. Click the trash bin button next to the unwanted add-on and choose Remove.

Delete from Mozilla Firefox

  1. Open Firefox and tap Ctrl+Shift+A to access the Add-ons Manager.
  2. In the menu on the left click Extensions.
  3. Find the unwanted extension and click the Remove button next to it.

Remove leftovers

N.B. Even if you delete unwanted extensions and uninstall unwanted software, leftovers might remain active, and you must remove them as well. These are the leftovers associated with the hijacker that you might have to remove. Do not worry if you cannot find the leftover in Temp folder, as it might have been erased already.

  1. Tap Win+R to launch RUN.
  2. Type regedit.exe and tap Enter.
  3. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Tracing.
  4. Right-click and Delete these keys: My Email XP_RASAPI32 and My Email XP_RASMANCS.
  5. Tap Win+E (Explorer) and enter c:\Documents and Settings\user\AppData\Local\Application Data\Temp\XP into the address bar.
  6. Right-click and Delete this file: My Current News XP_settings.json.

In non-techie terms:

We advise removing for a few simple reasons. First of all, this search provider might change browser settings. Secondly, it does not show original search results. Thirdly, it initiates redirecting to third-party sites. Due to these reasons, you should delete this hijacker from your operating system and browsers without further delay.
