Do you know what Police Virus is?
Police Virus is one of the many ransomware applications that have recently been plaguing a lot of users all around the globe. If frequent forums and other communities that talk about software and the Internet, you should have heard of its predecessors already - that would be FBI Moneypak Virus, Investigation Department Virus and so on and so forth. All of them have the same functions, and all of them (including Police Virus) have to be removed immediately.
It might be rather tricky to deal with Police Virus on your own, considering it blocks your desktop access. That is to say (and you have probably noticed it already) - the message displayed by Police Virus does not allow you to use any of the system functions. You are virtually locked out and the only way to get back to your system is to load it in Safe Mode. If you know how to remove Police Virus on your own, you can load the computer in Safe Mode and then delete all the files, registry key entries and processes related to the malicious application.
However, if you do not know how to terminate Police Virus on your own, you need to boot in Safe Mode with Networking (restart the computer and press F8 while the system boots). Safe Mode with Networking allows you to access the Internet, so while you're at it, you can download a reliable antimalware program that will delete Police Virus for you automatically.
As long as you realize that the message displayed by Police Virus is not true, everything should be alright. Do not panic, because this ransomware does not delete your files - it only wants your money. That is why it displays the message demanding money for something you haven't done:
Attention! Your PC is blocked due to at least one of the reason specified below.
You have been violating Copyright and Related Rights Law (Video, Music, Software) and illegally using copyrighted content. <...>
Article 208 of the Crime Code provides for a fine of up to 100 USD and and/or a deprivation of liberty for four to nine years.
Of course, you don't need to pay 100 USD and you are not facing an imprisonment up to 4 years. That is a blatant lie that Police Virus uses in order to scare you and force you into paying the non-existent fine. Not to mention that you there is no guarantee you will see your desktop again if you send the money to Police Virus.
Thus, the only way out of this situation is removing Police Virus for good. Do not allow this malicious application to take over.
In non-techie terms: Police Virus is a fake security notification that expects you to pay for an offense that hasn't been committed. You need to remove Police Virus from your computer following the instructions above as soon as possible, and safeguard the system against other possible attacks.
