Hi There
I just don’t know where I got this malware from, as I’m generally fairly careful.
(XP Pro) In any case I searched the registry for any reference to antiviruspro2009 by searching for the string antivirus and deleting ALL obvious references. There are many occurrences.
Also stopped process brastk.exe and removed file (system32\drivers I seem to recall)
Hard delete all files under C:\Program Files\AntivirusPro 2009
Also delete from all start menu’s under Document and Settings
Also, check shortcuts and system tray
What a pain. Tell those guys to get a real job.
My screen goes completely black during step 4. Disk clean up initializes but a little while later the screen goes black. Safe mode in the four corners and microsoft xp on top, otherwise all black
My system will not let me delete Antivirus pro 2009.
When I try to delete, I get a message that says access denied, or that its write-protected or in use.
Can you help me?
Thank’s, it worked perfect…
I wasted a whole afternoon getting rid of this malicious software today. The version I had was named Internet Antivirus Pro. This spyware probably has many similar names but does the same bad things described above. Anyhow, I have to try 3 times before finally “killing” it.
I followed the automatic removal instructions above and downloaded the SmitFraudFix software and ran it in safe mode. I followed all the steps up to step 5 but step 6 never happened. I skipped to steps 7 through 12. I tried 2 times and both failed. I believe the spyware was still in the temp files and popped right up when I reboot in normal mode in step 7. So I tried a third time and did something a little different.
While in safe mode, I did a search of the C drive to find the program and related files. I hard deleted the “Internet Antivirus Pro” program in the program folder of the C drive. I also searched all the Temp folders that have filenames similar to “IAPro” and hard deleted them too. And then I ran the SmitFraudFix program. After the program cleaned up the processes and the registry, I reboot again to safe mode. Then I deleted the all the Temp files as described in steps 10 and 11 and also empty all the files in the Recycle Bin before I reboot in normal mode. And the spyware was finally gone this third time.
Appreciate the info from everyone…
