Disabled service affected Wordpress hosted services over the weekend through Tuesday.

Over the weekend the WordPress.com blog hosting services had a denial-of-service (DoS) issue that prevented users from logging into their blogs for several days. The spokesman for Automattic, Matt Mullenweg, which maintains WordPress.com, confirmed that the service experienced a denial-of-service attack with up to 6 gigabits of incoming traffic which lead to blogs being inaccessible for several minutes on Tuesday.

Companies that have blogs hosted by WordPress.com experienced outages over 15 mintues in some cases. With this type of outage users were left without the ability to log into their blogs and make any changes or post comments. This is a big handicap in our Blogging world and goes without saying that many bloggers were very unhappy about the situation.

SwiftCleaner may display system alert messages and popups in an attempt to get users to purchase the full version of SwiftCleaner.

SwiftCleaner is not a reputable cleaning tool for your computer. SwiftCleaner may drastically slow down your system and potentially put your data and privacy at risk. SwiftCleaner cannot be trusted.

WinPerformance is one of the latest rogue programs to hit the internet which is spread from the well known Zlob Trojan infection. The infection that installs WinPerformance is usually downloaded through video codecs or P2P sites. WinPerformance uses deceiving popups and system alert messages to incite users to use the WinPerformance program to clean their system.

WinPerformance is nothing more than another scam and must not be trusted. The only performance you will get out of WinPerformance is making your hard earned money disapper through the purchase of a bogus program.

Emotigt Toolbar is a recent clone of the infamous Zlob Trojan series of infections. Emotigt Toolbar masks as a legitimate toolbar with 4 buttons/functions. Emotigt Toolbar may hijack your web browser displaying this toolbar which redirects users to malicious websites that promote rogue anti-spyware programs. Emotigt Toolbar may also display popups and fake system alerts in an attempt to notify you that you are infected with a parasite. This notification is fake. Emotigt Toolbar cannot be trusted.

It really does not pay to Spam when you get caught

A 25 year old man in Tokyo Japan was arrested for sending out over 2 billion spam email messages that promoted gambling and dating websites. An Internet Service Provider (ISP) has been tracking this man, Yuki Shiina, since May 2006. Because he sent out so many email messages it became suspicious to the ISP and they have since been monitoring the activity. Now Shiina’s malicious activities have granted him a free ticket to jail.

It is said by Sophos, a security vendor, that Shiina acquired a list of about 600,000 email addresses in return for 100,000 yen ($927 US Dollars) and had a return of 2 million yen ($18,540 US Dollars) for advertising on his email spamming excursion. Shiina broke the law in Tokyo that prohibits sending out spam emails with fake sender information. With so many spam emails sent to various recipients it landed Shiina behind bars.
